I built the notification and messaging layer with delivery guarantees baked in — messages queue and retry if a connection drops, read receipts stay accurate even on flaky mobile connections, and reconnects don't create duplicate messages.

Engagement went up simply because users could finally trust that an unread badge meant something unread — and stopped needing to double-check by refreshing.
